尼日利亚标准局强化SONCAP以防止进口不合格的产品
尼日利亚标准局（SON）计划全面落实产品符合性认证程序（SONCAP）和市场监督以清除不合格产品。
在过去的几个星期里，最近被任命为SON总干事的Ikemefuna Odumodu先生举行了若干次记者招待会，他重点阐述SON未来的构想，以及计划如何重新强化SONCAP，以防止尼日利亚进口不合格的产品。

SON plans full implementation of SONCAP and market surveillance to wipe out substandard goods.
Over the past few weeks Mr. Ikemefuna Odumodu, who has recently been appointed as the new Director General of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON,) has held a number of press conferences to outline his vision of the future of SON and how he intends to re-enforce the SONCAP to combat the import of any substandard goods into Nigeria.
Part of his proposal is to have SON units positioned in all the major markets in the country. These units will not only strenuously reinforce SONCAP but will also serve as information centres for consumers who wish confirm the genuineness of each product they want to buy.
Mr Odumodu has also reacted to reports of fraudulent activity at the ports by reviewing all officials and taking the necessary action to ensure that the SONCAP is enforced correctly.
To ensure that Importers comply with SONCAP, SON had imposed a default charge and deposit of about N1.5m on goods that do not meet SONCAP requirements. This has however now been reduced to N500,000. <BR>&nbsp;<BR>Goods being exported to Nigeria will be under greater scrutiny from now. Those shipments trying to enter the country without the necessary documentation from an approved SONCAP partner will be rejected and returned to the port of origin.
It is therefore essential that all exports of regulated products under SONCAP have the necessary valid SONCAP certificate for Customs Clearance in Nigeria to avoid any charges, demurrages, fines or possible re-export of the goods back to the Country of Origin.

NEW ERA BEGINS AT SON -As Odumodu takes over from Akanya <BR>&nbsp;<BR>A new era of leadership commences at the Standards Organisation of Nigeria as Dr. Joseph Ikemefuna Odumodu takes over the mantle of leadership following his appointment by President Goodluck Jonathan a few weeks back.
Dr. Odumodu holds a first class degree in Pharmacy from the University of Ife, Ile-Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife), a Master of Science degree in Pharmacology, Master of Business Administration in Marketing and Doctor of Business Administration.
A highly esteemed administrator and business executive, Dr. Odumodu has contributed a lot to the development of the pharmaceutical industry in Nigeria. He is the chairman of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Group of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (PMG-MAN) as well as the Chairman of the Chemical and Pharmaceuticals Sector of MAN.
The new Director General of SON is a serving Council Member, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and represents the Association on the Governing Council of NAFDAC.
Prior to his new appointment, Dr. Odumodu was the Managing Director/Chief Executive of May and Baker Plc since 1997. He held many positions of responsibility in the company including Deputy Managing Director, General Manager (Sales &amp; Marketing) Pharmaceuticals and General Manager (Medical) Marketing.
He is a Fellow, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria and West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists; Member, Commonwealth Pharmaceutical Association; Institute of Pharmacy Management International and Institute of Directors, Nigeria.
The new Chief Executive of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria holds the National Honour of the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) since 2008.
